VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) has garnered a revenue of Rs 97 lakh from the week-long Saptah fair, setting a new revenue record.
Addressing the media at Vasco, the MMC Chairperson Girish Borker expressed satisfaction with this year’s Saptah fair, highlighting that it was the first time in several years that the fair did not require an extension.
“This year’s Saptah fair witnessed an unprecedented response from the public, leading to the MMC’s highest-ever revenue of around Rs 97 lakh. This achievement is historic as the fair was completed within the stipulated seven-day period without any extensions, which is a departure from the norm. Our commitment to the people and the town has paid off, and we have fulfilled our promise to clear the Saptah fair and the Swatantra Path road within seven days, along with the support of the police and Electricity Department,” said Borker.
Borker also addressed the inconvenience faced by residents during the fair, such as the smell of open urination. The Saptah fair usually lasts for 15 days; however, due to population growth and associated issues, it has been restricted to seven days following a court order.
