VASCO: Mormugao Municipal Council on Monday resolved to revoke the occupancy certificate issued to the Goa Shipyard Limited (GSL), Vasco after seeking legal advice.

The Mormugao Municipal Council had earlier issued occupancy certificate to the GSL based on a letter by the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) without placing it in the council meeting.

During the council meeting held at Ravindra Bhavan, Baina on Monday, the councillors expressed their anger against the GSL alleging that this public sector undertaking, despite being in the municipal areas, was not supporting the council nor employing Goan youth particularly from the Mormugao taluka.

Mormugao chairperson Leo Rodrigues said that the   occupancy certificate issued to the GSL will be revoked but only after taking a legal advice. He said that the municipality had earlier issued the occupancy certificate to the GSL’s new building but the councillors had now unanimously resolved to revoke the same. But he said that the decision to evoke the occupancy certificate will be taken only after seeking legal advice.

On the other hand, councillor Deepak Naik said that after the previous council meeting, he had decided to seek legal recourse against the municipality for issuing occupancy certificate despite strong objections from majority councillors, who he claimed had unanimously resolved to revoke the occupancy certificate during the last meeting.
