VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) conducted an inspection of the market area in the port town and warned vendors to get rid of encroachments carried by them.
The civic body stated that they received several complaints from citizens regarding roads being encroached upon by shopkeepers and vendors and warned them to respect the law and refrain from disturbing the smooth flow of traffic. Accordingly, on Thursday, MMC Chairperson Girish Borkar, Market Committee Chairman Prajay Mayekar, Narayan Borker and municipal inspectors and workers went around the market and appealed to the vendors to transact business without encroaching.
“If the vendors do not listen despite the appeal, then they will be penalised and goods will be confiscated,” warned the Chairperson.
MMC Chairperson Borker appealed to the vendors selling vegetables, fruits and other items to do their business without causing public nuisance.
Earlier MMC had issued warnings to vendors, but the latter were adamant and refused to budge from the roadside. Hence, Borker has asked the civic inspectors to take strict action against those violating the law.
Mayekar appealed to the vendors to cooperate with the MMC staff and do their businesses at designated places.
