Mormugao Council not to allow Saptah fair beyond seven days

VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council on Thursday decided to install maximum bio-toilets and not to allow Saptah fair beyond seven days.

The special council meeting with various government departments discussed preparedness for the upcoming 125th Saptah festival. It was decided that the Saptha fair be held strictly for seven days only and not to allow displaying of banners in the town. 

Chairperson Girish Borker said that they have requested a public sector undertaking to provide over 20 bio-toilets to take care of the vendors coming for the Saptah festival. 

Councillor Shami Salkar said that they will ban the use of single plastic during the fair. 

Mormugao DySP Salim Shaikh said that 20 CCTVs and watch towers will be erected and a strict watch will be kept on miscreants. Also elaborate arrangements will be made for the convenience of devotees, he added.

Vasco Traffic Cell PI Shailesh Narvekar said that the police will direct the Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) not to have movement of heavy vehicles through the Vasco town during the Saptah fair.

Damodar temple committee member Santosh Khorjuvekar has requested devotees not to rush to the temple during the main function. 

Similar requests has also been made to Ministers and politicians not to bring a huge crowd with them in the temple during the main function.
