Vasco: Ten Mormugao councillors from the panel backed by Urban Development Minister Milind Naik, accused the Chairperson (CP) Nandadeep Raut and Vice-Chairperson (VCP) Reema Sonurlekar of misusing their powers.
This was alleged at a press conference attended by opposition panel councillors, namely Murari Bandekar, Krishna Salkar, Kritesh Gaunkar, Lavina Desouza, Damokar Kaskar, Dhanpal Swami, Shashikant Parab, Saifullah Khan, Leo Rodrigues and Sarita Palkar.
They accused the CP and VCP of obstructing public development works by not allotting municipal labourers in the wards of opposition.
They further stated that they had complained to the Directorate of Municipal Administration (DMA) about the same along with a demand for their disqualification. A similar complaint has been given to the Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) Chief Officer as well and have demanded strict action against the CP and VCP.
Councillor Bandekar said there were hygiene and cleanliness issues as a result of the deliberate controlling of municipal labourers by the VCP. Former MMC CP Kritesh Gaunkar lamented that the wards were suffering for the past few months because of the ‘low- level politics and that such a scenario should not have happened.
Councillor Salkar said developmental works undertaken by opposition councillors had been obstructed by CP Raut. Salkar further listed issues such as clearing of garbage, clearing uprooted trees which have been held up as MMC was not providing labourers for these tasks.
This is the latest in political barbs that have been exchanged between the two group of councillors.
