VASCO: Mormugao Deputy Collector has directed the Executive Engineer of Water Resource Department (WRD), Margao to take necessary action on the complaint made by the Quelossim Village Biodiversity Committee chairman over some alleged illegal work being carried out in a khazan land.
In a letter to the Executive Engineer of WRD, Margao, the Mormugao Deputy Collector stated that a complaint dated May 31, 2021 has been received from Lopinho Xavier, chairperson of the Quelossim Village Biodiversity Committee, Quelossim Village Panchayat mentioning that an alleged illegal work is being carried out by one private party in the khajan land of Quelossim village by using heavy machinery.
The complainant stated that the marshy soil is dredged atleast minimum 500 tonnes from the khajan land and transported by two tractor trolleys and dumped in the nearby adjacent property. A copy of the complaint along with the photographs submitted by the complainant is enclosed.
Further, the Deputy Collector mentioned that an inspection was conducted by the Mamlatdar of
Mormugao, Vasco, wherein it has been noticed that desilting work of water body is being carried out by one private party. In view of above, the WRD is requested to take necessary action.
It may be recalled that recently, the Quelossim Panchayat had issued stop work notice to the work which was allegedly ongoing in the khazan land. Further, an inspection was also called few days back and panchayat has also directed the project proponent to produce necessary documents.
