VASCO: Mormugao Deputy Collector and Assistant Electoral Registration Officer (AERO) Sachin Desai on Thursday refuted the allegations that he is working under political pressure and said that they are working under the supervision of Election Commission.
Commenting over the recent controversy of 800 names which are reportedly being planned to be deleted from the electoral rolls of the Mormugao Constituency, the Deputy Collector cleared the air stating that his office received 768 deletion requests online on the ERONET relating to the cases of death, shifting, relinquishment of Indian citizenship, etc. Desai further informed that these forms will be processed and inquiry is yet to be started.
“In the RP Act 1950, the procedure for dealing with claims and objections are defined and the ERO is duty-bound to follow the law and other instruction in this regard issued by Election Commission of India,” he added.
He also revealed that no names have been deleted till date and deletion request will be processed, and also physical verification will be carried by the ERO and the AERO personally at the time of disposing such requests.
