Mormugao locals pay hefty fees for online registration!

VASCO: Locals have to reportedly shell out exorbitant money to get the online registration of residential and other govt documents from cyber cafes and typing centres. Mamlatdar of Mormugao assured to investigate into the matter and also pointed out that there is a need of Citizen Service Centre in Mormugao to assist people in online registration and queries.

The government’s steps to ease the unnecessary physical movement of the people by making registration of almost all government documents online has opened up ways for some people to make extra money from the people in need. Recently a news report in a section of media reported that the people from Mormugao who have to do online registration for residential certificate and other government certificates reportedly had to shell out Rs 800 to 900 in cyber cafes and at typing centres.

A local NGO, Goa First, filed a complaint against the cyber cafes and online typing centre based in Mormugao for reportedly overcharging of fees for online registration of residential certificates.

When contacted, Dhirendra Banaulikar, Mormugao mamlatdar, expressed surprise on this matter and said that he has not come across any such instances. He said that government has digitalised most of the registrations and certificates such as residential and others and now people have to apply online via smart phones or computers.

“These online registrations also have digital signatures and are valid documents. Nowadays everywhere the digital registration for the certificates is being done. It is surprising to hear that people are being charged fees. I have received a complaint from an NGO, and I will forward it to the local police,” Banaulikar said.

“There is a need of Citizen Service Centre (CSC) in Mormugao wherein people can get help in online registration of documents and other queries,” Banaulikar added.

Goa First has asked the authorities to keep a check on such activities and instruct them to place a sign board depicting the price chart of various services and get approval from the regularisation authority which will protect the interest of financially deprived people.
