VASCO: Mormugao MLA Sankalp Amonkar has come under public scrutiny after he attended a programme of coal handling JSW Company distributing outboard motor engines to 32 members of the Desterro Fishermen Association, Baina who fish with the help of traditional boats.

He had praised the company for carrying out their social responsibility during the programme on Saturday. However, his stance on the coal issue was questioned.

Amonkar was present for free health check-up camp organised by Ravindra Bhavan and Veeda Clinics on Sunday which was attended by councillor Deepak Naik, Ravindra Bhavan chairman Jayant Jadhav, Dr Tanvi Desai, Dr Rajendra Kankonkar, Dr Anna Pereira and others. After the programme, he was asked about his stance on the pollution by coal.

“My stance has not changed at all. We will not increase the limit of coal handling at Mormugao Port. JSW Company distributing motor engines to fishermen and the coal issue are not mutually inclusive, they both are separate incidents. In fact, I am of the opinion that the coal handling companies in Goa should use the dome like companies in other states do,” he replied.
