VASCO: The Mormugao Municipal Council convened a special meeting to deliberate on revising its budget to allocate additional funds to the Goa State Urban Development Agency (GSUDA). These extra funds are intended to facilitate the finalisation of the ongoing renovation project for the municipal building.
Girish Borker, the Chairperson of Mormugao told mediapersons that the renovation of the municipal building is nearing completion. However, certain requirements for the new office space were not initially included in the renovation plan. Consequently, the municipal council may need to augment its budget by approximately Rs four to five crore.
Borker stated that the council lacks the necessary finances and is contemplating using funds allocated under the 15th Finance Commission for this purpose. The works also include improvements to the Municipal school within the building. Currently, this school lacks proper furniture, including chairs and benches. Additionally, the council hall requires a sound system for council meetings, as they are currently held in Ravindra Bhavan, Baina. Furthermore, the council is contemplating the construction of a footpath and a garden in the vicinity of the municipal building. Up to this point, the project has been executed by GSUDA with an initial estimated cost of Rs nine crore.
During the meeting, the council also deliberated on the issue of stray cattle in the municipality. Councillor Deepak Naik stated that the Mormugao Municipal Council had an MoU with the State government for capturing stray cattle. Concerns arose as some impounded cattle returned to the town, and so, an agency will be roped in to tackle the issue.
