Mormugao Municipal Council to Set Up Goa’s First Wet Waste Treatment Plant at Sada, Boosts Staff Medical Allowance

The Mormugao Municipal Council (MMC) convened its council meeting on Monday under the chairmanship of Girish Borkar, during which several key decisions were taken to strengthen civic infrastructure and staff welfare.

Chairperson Borkar announced that MMC will become the first municipality in Goa to establish a wet waste treatment plant at Sada, marking a major milestone in the state’s push towards sustainable and scientific waste management. The project is expected to significantly reduce the burden on landfills and improve cleanliness across Mormugao.

The council also resolved to appoint a maintenance contractor for the newly constructed fish market and the Sada market complex to ensure their smooth functioning and proper upkeep.

In another important decision, MMC approved an increase in the special medical allowance for both fixed and temporary staff, enhancing it by ₹2,000 to ₹9,000. The move was welcomed as a major welfare measure aimed at supporting municipal employees and improving staff morale.

The meeting reflected the council’s commitment to sustainability, efficient civic services and employee welfare, setting a new benchmark for urban governance in Goa.
