Vasco: Mormugao Municipality workers and employees called off their five-day strike on Saturday evening after discussion between the DMA, Administrator, Urban development minister and union leaders in Panjim. The workers decided to resume their duty and clear the piled up garbage from the municipal area on Sunday.
Speaking to the media, Urban Development Minister Milind Naik said the municipality workers and employees were on strike because of their salary and other allowances related issues. A two-three days of discussion was held with the Director of Municipal Administration, Mormugao Municipal Administrator to solve the issue and a intimation regarding the workers issue was given to the Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant.
Naik further said he is available on all working days and meets people in his office in his constituency and if the municipality workers and employees had to meet him before sitting on strike, the problems could have been easily resolved long back.
Giving more inputs about the meeting which was called in Panjim, the minister said, “the representatives of the workers were told that their salary will be released immediately either by Wednesday or Thursday. Next month’s payment will also be given on time. Other demands of the workers will be also be fulfilled, and we have written and agreed on this in the minutes,” Naik said.
He urged locals of his constituency to meet him if they have any griviences and assured that although he is minister of the State, he is also a MLA of his constituency and he will always there for the people.
Meanwhile, a municipal worker told the media, “they have been assured that they will get their salary by Thursday. The next salary will be deposited in their account by last day of the month. They were assured that their Dearness Allowance, arrears, and other allowances will be cleared by three months. We have been assured that only GPF deduction will happen and the municipal workers henceforth will be given full salary,” he said.
