VASCO: While Mormugao police struggles to nab the accused in the sexual assault on the 8-year-old schoolgirl, they were able to crack the Dabolim murder case within 24 hours.

Addressing reporters on Friday, Mormugao DySP Laurence D’Souza said the two accused, Vasudev alias Vasu Guna Sahankar Pillai (28) and Moneshwar alias Mohan Rangappa Bandi (41), both from Alto Dabolim, had incidentally visited the crime scene during police investigations and had managed to recover the knife from the site. They then slipped away with the murder weapon and washed it, before hiding the weapon near a chapel at Alto Dabolim,” informed DySP D’Souza.

D’Souza said interrogations had revealed that the murder had taken place while accused and the deceased were having a drink at the Dabolim railway station.

“The two accused provoked the deceased and this led to an altercation between them. The accused rushed to his residence at Alto Dabolim, came back with a knife and stabbed the deceased,” added D’Souza.

“While Vasudev attacked the deceased with a knife, Mohan tied the hands of the deceased and pushed him on the railway track and later crushed the deceased’s head with a stone,” informed the police official.

DySP D’Souza stated that an autopsy report established that the deceased had died of a brain haemorrhage, shock and multiple stab injuries.

D’Souza also informed that the Railway Police have attached a scooter (GA-06-H-0841). Police arrested the accused under Section 302 r/w 34 of IPC and Railway Police is investigating the case.

D’Souza stated that the murder case was cracked within 24 with the help of a police team which worked under the supervision of Vasco PI Rupendra Shetgaokar.
