Mormugao residents asked to stop polluting water bodies

VASCO: Mormugao Municipality chief officer issued public notices to locals asking them to stop polluting water bodies from the Mormugao municipal jurisdiction and to built septic tanks in their household within 40 days. If people fail to comply with these measures and continue releasing dirty sewage water in water bodies then strict action will be taken, said the chief officer.
On the basis of the order issued to the municipality by the Directorate of Municipal Administration which was directed by the NGT, a joint inspection of the water bodies and some areas having water bodies was held last week.
In a public notice issued by the CO it is mentioned that in a joint inspection held by MMC staff and health officer of the urban health centre Vasco, in municipal jurisdiction area, locals were found releasing household, sewage and other dirty water in the nullahs and other water bodies. 
Instructions have been given to the people not to wash clothes and release sewage water in the nullahs and other water bodies. Time of 40 days has been given to the households either to get sewage connection, construct soak-pit or build septic tank in their land. If they fail to obey the instructions then their outlet of the sewage line will be closed by municipality and a fine will be imposed, said the notice.
