PONDA: While the State celebrated Liberation Day by paying homage to martyrs and remembering the freedom struggle on Thursday, most panchas of Adpoi-Durbhat remained absent at the flag-hosting ceremony in the village, much to the anger of the residents.
According to information, only three of the seven panchas were present at the flag hoisting ceremony outside the Panchayat building at Adpoi.
Several villagers who attended the ceremony expressed shock at the absence of the local elected representatives. Only the Panchayat Sarpanch Ganpat Naik along with two other panchas attended the function in presence of school children and several residents.
One of the villagers even went to the extent of condemning the incident while addressing the gathering.
“This is not acceptable and especially from our local elected representatives. Many sacrificed their lives for the freedom of Goa and because of them we see this day today. The panchas seems to have forgotten the importance of the day and it is evident from the fact that majority of them are absent.”
