MARGAO: Margao markets that generally are teeming with shoppers on the eve of any celebrations wore deserted look on Saturday except for the New Market where people had gathered to purchase their provisions.
Most Catholics were totally disappointed with the absence of meat as many of them do not consume meat during the Lent and the only person who was selling pork at the Old Market did good business. The shops selling chicken and beef were closed.
Fish was sold by one person in the open space at SGPDA Market. For eight mackerels it was Rs 500 while a portion of prawns was sold for Rs 300.
At the New Market huge queues were seen of the people to purchase provisions while the Gandhi Market had closed at 6 am.
