Most establishments remain closed in Margao

MARGAO: Lockdown continued in Margao on the second day with most of the establishments remaining closed except for the pharmacies, grocery stores and few tea and snack serving shops that only gave takeaways.

All the bars and restaurants remained closed though some of them did give take away snacks and food items. Longuinhos, which was open on Saturday, was closed today.

The traffic on Margao streets was much reduced on Saturday and it is evident that the people have stopped moving around going by the challans issued by the Traffic Cell Margao against those moving around without masks.

Since the Traffic Cell started issuing these challans since April 17, on an average everyday they used to issue around 100 challans and till April 30, they had issued 1,296 challans thereby collecting Rs 2,59,200 as fines.

“On April 30, when the lockdown started, the Traffic Cell issued only 30 challans,” said Police Inspector Gautam Salunke.
