Abandonment of baby is a result of strained married relationship

Fatorda Police have arrested 30-year-old Priyanka Fernandes for abandoning her one-and-a-half-month-old child.

In a shocking incident, a one-and-a-half-month-old newborn baby girl was found abandoned by her mother Near St Joaquim Road, at Borda Margao. The police rescued the child from the dumpster and quickly took the child to the hospital for medical treatment.

On Wednesday morning, the newborn baby girl was found abandoned in a garbage pile behind the apartment building where the child’s family lives. Upon noticing the disappearance of their child the father immediately called the police. The police swiftly conducted an investigation and later found the girl in the garbage pile, crying and wrapped in a green polythene bag behind the family’s residence.

“This morning, I was sleeping and my wife woke me up and said I can’t find my baby. I woke up my parents immediately. Then I informed our neighbour about the situation and called the police” said Richard D’souza, the child’s father.

When the father was asked about who was the person behind the act, he replied, “I really don’t know anything. I found my baby behind the building’s garbage pit. It was a shock for me. I’m still in the trauma right now over what has happened.”

As per the father the main door was locked from inside and everyone was asleep. There was no sign of anything unusual within the family that could be suspected.

The police have registered a case against the mother for committing such inhumane act. Police are currently investigating the situation and more details are yet to come.
