PONDA: Police arrested thirty-year-old Shaila Patil from Pune in Maharashtra and currently staying in Ponda for selling her 11-month male child for Rs 2 lakh on Friday.

Police acted on the complaint filed by her husband with the help of a NGO at Ponda.
According to Ponda PI Harish Marcaikar the incident took place on March 23, when Shaila contacted her two friends at Pernem stating that she badly needed Rs 2 lakh and was ready to sell her child and that both should help her find a customer.
Both contacted Amar, who agreed to buy the child for Rs 2 lakh and accordingly the deal was done in Ponda.
Two days after the incident, the Shaila’s husband, who had gone to his native place in Madhya Pradesh, returned and was shocked to see his son missing.
After a quarrel, their neighbours intervened and it was then that she revealed the entire deal, after which the husband filed a complaint.
