MAPUSA: Father of the deceased toddler has confessed that his wife (mother of the deceased) killed their daughter out of frustration. All this while, both the parents were protecting each other and were changing their statements, however during the two days of police custody, the father confessed that his wife killed the toddler.
The post-mortem report ascertained that the child had multiple injuries and fractures on the body and she was hit by a hard object causing blunt force impact which resulted in her death.
The autopsy report also revealed that there were fractures on her head and stomach and that the bruises on the body were fresh.
The father said that since the mother is a psychiatric patient, she used to go out of control and on the day of the incident, she lost control and hit the baby. He also said that the mother used to ill-treat the kids and harass them sometimes.
Meanwhile, police have informed that murder charges on the father will be dropped and if he has no role in the crime then he would be cited as an eyewitness.
Police said that the father was on good terms with the daughter and there was no issue of being a girl child. The other family members from both sides of the parents have also not suspected any doubt about the father.
“Prima facie, mother has killed the child. Further investigation is in progress,” PI Somnath said.
It can be recalled that on eve of Independence Day, the parents of a five-month-old infant girl were arrested for murdering their own child using a chapatti rolling wood to beat the child to death.
The Colvale police arrested the parents Sudin Gondlekar (42), the father of the deceased child and Arminda Fernandes (32), the mother under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code.
According to police, the couple had initially decided to dispose of the body discreetly and the wife was pressurising her husband to plan it that way. However, the husband eventually decided to approach the police station with the infant in a basket.
