Mother of 10-day-old abandoned baby girl detained

The infant was found abandoned near the Manohar Parrikar Smarak (Memorial) at Miramar on Dec 25

PANJIM: The Panaji police on Wednesday managed to locate the mother of 10-day-old baby, found abandoned at Miramar two days back.

According to Superintendent of Police (SP) North, Nidhin Valsan, the mother of the child has been tracked and is being interrogated.

“We have tracked the person. We are interrogating. We have registered an FIR. We will take legal action. The person is from Goa. We cannot give further details,” Valsan told reporters on Wednesday.

A 10-day-old baby girl was found abandoned near the Manohar Parrikar Smarak (Memorial) at Miramar on December 25. Passersby alerted authorities upon hearing the infant’s cries, prompting an immediate response from the Panjim police.

Responding swiftly to the call, the police arrived at the scene and discovered the newborn in a box, left amidst garbage. Acting promptly, they rushed the baby to the Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Bambolim, for urgent medical attention and care.
