MARGAO, JAN 30
The gang war between warring groups from migrant inhabited Moti Dongor hillock flared up on Sunday after an accused person in the recent attack case complained that he was attacked by the rival gang at Arlem-Raia on Sunday evening.
The victim Ameen told the Maina Curtorim police that around seven persons, including four brothers, from the rival group, attacked him by spraying a liquid substance in his eyes.
A complaint to this effect was filed by Ameen’s friend Abdul Rabanni to the police late Sunday evening. Ameen was convalescing at the Hospicio hospital and police were deployed outside the hospital as a precautionary measure.
Maina Curtorim Police Inspector Sidhant Shirodkar informed that the duo have claimed they were staying at Arlem after their release by the court in the Moti Dongor attack case.
“They have claimed that around seven persons from the rival group have attacked them. Ameen has sustained some minor injuries”, he said.
Though Shirodkar said the injuries sustained by Ameen are simple in nature, he said the police will register a case for rioting, unlawful assembly and assault against the persons named in the complaint.
Accordingly, Police Sub Inspector Paresh Naik registered a case against the seven persons, including Maqbool, Mukia, Mardan, Riyaz, Laxman Chawan, Hazrat Ali and Naushad.
That the police has taken serious note of the incident was evident by the fact that Deputy Superintendent of Police Umesh Gaonkar directed Shirodkar to personally verify the complaint in view of the sensitive nature of the group rival atop the migrant inhabited hillock.
“There was a claim of assault lodged by Ameen pointing accusing fingers at the rival group. The police are verifying the complaint”, Gaonkar said.
Moti Dongor was rocked by violence earlier this month when a group led by Ameen and Bashir attacked the rival group led by Maqbool at Moti Dongor, prompting the police to arrest eight persons for the offense of attempt to murder.
All the accused persons have now been released on bail by the court on Saturday.
Incidentally, Sunday’s alleged incident at Arlem is the first incident to occur between the two groups, who are trying to establish their supremacy atop the hillock.
