PONDA: A 29-yr-old motorcyclist was seriously injured after a tree fell on his bike at around 7.30 am yesterday.
The incident happened when a roadside Gulmohar tree fell on Samadhan Bhimrao Yamgar, near the Top Cola factory at Borim and knocked him off the bike.
The severely injured and bleeding rider was shifted to Hospicio hospital at Margao.
The tree even brought down an electricity pole which fell on a moving lorry resulting in a traffic jam along the Borim Highway.
The Ponda fire personnel later cleared the road and local panch member Vinay Parpati demanded that old trees along the area be cut at the earliest and the road widened.
It may be recalled that a woman from Shiroda was killed last month when a huge banyan tree fell on her as she was returning home after casting her vote in the panchayat elections.
Meanwhile, another motorcyclist was seriously injured after he was knocked down by a car at the Opa junction on Thursday. The car driver who attempted to flee from the spot later banged against a moving truck, lost control of his vehicle and dashed against a compound wall and sustained injuries in the bargain.
