MARGAO: Residents of Rachol are having a harrowing time motoring through the village roads which have become dangerous water thanks due to the ongoing work of laying underground electricity cables; and due to which the roads have not only been narrowed down but also become dangerous to manoeuvre.
Nanu Enterprises have taken up the work of laying the underground cables and work commenced sometime in January and since then the people are facing a lot of difficulties. The contractor has not completely covered the dug up portion even after laying the cables.
Sand and pebbles are found by the roadside and even on the road due to which practically every day somebody or the other skids and falls down, but neither the contractor nor the panchayat seems to be doing anything for the safety of the people.
Christopher Alburque, a local, has been fighting to get the road restored to motorable condition for quite some time but is frustrated as he is not getting any response from the contractor nor any help and support from the panchayat.
Dyamanna, supervisor of the work said that the road would be cleared once all the work is completed and opined that the road will be restored within a week’s time.
Querobino Gomes, Deputy Sarpanch of Rachol also said the work will be ready by the end of next week and said the contractor has already been instructed to restore the road to its original status. “We are going to hot mix the road also and that is why the contractor will have to restore the road,” he said.
Presently all the interior roads in the village are badly affected but the worst scenario is on the road leading from the Rachol Seminary to the ferry point where two wheelers come at high speed whenever a ferry docks at the Rachol ferry jetty.
