BELGAUM: Motorists travelling between Belgaum and Goa have been irked by the unwarranted delay to repair the Ramnagar-Goa highway.
The condition of the NH4A between Belgaum and Anmod has deteriorated to such an extent that a number of motorists are either reluctant to ply or have been advised to avoid the route.
Though the land acquisition process is almost completed except for a few kilometres and tenders have been sanctioned, there are no signs of the actual implementation of the four-lane work.
Several potholes have developed on the highway at Macche, Peeranwadi, Honkal, Gunji, Londa and Ramnagar. The heavy dust generated due to the potholes has caused severe hardship to two-wheeler motorists from the villages.
Some inter-state travellers have begun taking the Khanapur-Hemadaga-Anmod road that passes through reserved forest areas.
When contacted, officials were also clueless on when the dilapidated road would be repaired or when the actual construction of the road would commence.
It may be recalled that the Belgaum Chamber of Commerce had recently highlighted the condition of the NH4A, as a major handicap hindering the transportation of goods to the Mormugao Port Trust.
Meanwhile, the Belgaum-Panjim road via Chorla is nearing completion and once completed, it will be the shortest route for commuters travelling between North Goa and Belgaum.
Work on this 2-km stretch, which was left out during the monsoons, is being completed on the war footing.
