Panjim: The Goa Pradesh Congress has said that the collection of huge piles of garbage from beaches across Goa on Coastal Clean-up Day vindicates their party’s stand that there is a scam in the beach cleaning contract.
For several years, Congress has been pushing the ruling BJP government to task the local panchayats with beach cleaning, and employ
the services of Goan
contractors.
“Huge mounds of garbage collected from various beaches in Goa by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant, Union Minister Shripad Naik, Tourism Minister Rohan Khaunte along with the new BJP MLAs Digambar Kamat and Aleixo Sequeira vindicate the Congress stand that there is a scam in beach cleaning contract,” alleged GPCC President Amit Patkar.
“I urge the new BJP MLAs Kamat and Sequeira to demand that the Chief Minister scrap the Beach Cleaning Contract and save almost 60 crores of the State’s exchequer,” Patkar said. “It is shocking to see the huge amount of garbage collected by the ministers and others who participated in the drive to mark the ‘Clean Coast, Safe Sea’ campaign across Goa. This proves that the beach cleaning contractor appointed by the government is not doing anything,” he added.
