MP blames govt for COVID deaths

Sardinha says if CM had enforced a 15-day lockdown earlier many lives would have been saved

MARGAO: Member of Parliament Francisco Sardinha said if Chief Minister Dr Pramod Sawant had to enforce a 15-day lockdown earlier many precious Goan lives would have been saved and held the government responsible for the several COVID deaths.

Speaking to media persons, he said it was the villages that declared a lockdown first and the government followed suit later and lamented that in the interim period so many people lost their lives.

“I am not saying that all of them would have survived but at least the deaths would have been reduced,” he said.

Stating that the functioning of the Bharatiya Janata Party government was deplorable, he said what was the point in getting the oxygen as the people had already died due to lack of it? He asserted that vaccination is the only solution.

“Everybody should be vaccinated and wearing a mask at all times, washing the hands constantly or sanitising them has to be adhered to rigidly,” he said demanding that social distancing should be maintained at all times.

He complimented the health workers particularly the doctors and nurses and asked them to overlook the relatives’ outbursts.

“They do not shout out of anger or hatred but only because they are anxious and worried about their relatives who are sick,” he added.
