According to reports, Madhya Pradesh PSI Vijay Sanghariya had gone to the Saturday night market on December 13, when his 9 mm service pistol was reportedly stolen. The PSI then filed a missing complaint with Anjuna police on Monday.
Sanghariya, who is attached to Sarampur police station, had arrived in Goa along with a constable and two drivers in a Scorpio vehicle to investigate a kidnapping case.
On their arrival in Goa, they went to the Saturday night market. Sanghariya claimed that they had parked their vehicle and had fallen asleep, when his service pistol was stolen.
Acting on a police complaint, an Anjuna police team went through the footage of 27 CCTV cameras installed in the Saturday night market and spotted the two persons involved in the crime.
Anjuna police managed to nab the accused, Craydon D’Souza (32) of Gaura Vaddo, Calangute, and his accomplice, Elton Rudy Rumian, of Bamon Vaddo in Candolim. The stolen service pistol was recovered from their possession.
It is, however, surprising that two persons could steal a service pistol from Sanghariya in the presence of three other policemen, but Sanghariya was unwilling to speak to the media in this connection.
