PORVORIM, JUNE 1
Stating that funds under MP Local Area Development (MPLAD) scheme cannot be disbursed for religious purposes, Rajya Sabha MP Shantaram Naik said MPs are supposed to utilise the fund for community projects and development of infrastructure.
He was speaking at the function organised by Gomantak Maratha Akademi, Porvorim, to mark the delivery of three computers to the Academi under MPLAD scheme.
Naik further said the State government has directed all its departments to update its websites so that information pertaining to their department is made available to the citizens at their door steps.
“As per the Right to Information Act, it is mandatory for each government department to update its website so that citizens need not run from pillar to post to get the information about the department or the schemes launched by that department,” said Naik.
“But it is unfortunate that government departments, barring three or four, have not bothered to update its sites as yet,” added Naik.
Naik said the technology is advancing at a rapid pace and institutions like Gomantak Marathi Academi should gear up themselves to make use of the new technology.
“The concepts of E-books Library have become very popular and Marathi Academy should also go in for it so that readers need not search for books in the shelves of their library,” added Naik.
“Internet is an important tool which can be used effectively for exchange of thoughts or pass on the information about the activities of Marathi Academi to the Marathi-speaking people residing in other countries,” said Naik.
In his welcome speech, Gomantak Marathi Academi president thanked MP Naik for donating three computers to the Academi. “Goa needs politicians like Naik who are loyal to their parties and work wholeheartedly for the betterment of the State,” said Azgaonkar.
Nilesh Bugde compered the function, while Gomantak Maratha Academi Vice President Vithal Gawas proposed the vote of thanks.
Former deputy speaker Shambubhau Bandekar and former president of Gomantak Marathi Academi Gurudas Sawal were present for the function.
