MARGAO: South Goa MP Francisco Sardinha has urged the traffic police to carefully plan the traffic arrangements at the Cortalim and Agassaim junction on the days when there are carnival parades in Goa.
While addressing media persons on Monday, Sardinha spoke about how he himself witnessed the traffic jams last week and that he had heard from others about the problems they faced when they too were stuck in traffic.
“People are getting stuck at the Cortalim junction for over 40 minutes. The issues are not just for those going to Panjim but also those who are coming to Margao. They too are getting stuck at Agassaim for a long period. And on the days of Carnival, in the absence of a plan, there will be bigger problems,” said Sardinha.
The MP also spoke about many other issues amongst which, he paid homage and his respects to the two former MLAs – Luis Alex Cardoso and Teotonio Pereira who passed away recently. He recalled and listed out their contributions towards Goa’s progress.
Speaking on another issue, the MP criticised the government for dragging their feet regarding the demolition of the illegal bungalow that has been constructed near a protected monument in Old Goa.
He praised the citizens who have been on a hunger strike since November-end and said after the government had already determined that the project was illegal, why was it waiting to complete the demolition process.
Sardinha further accused the BJP government of playing with the sentiments of the minorities and gave examples of other issues where the government had let down the minority community in Goa.
