PANJIM: Member of Parliament Ajay Maken, has threatened legal action over social media reports that Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s poster girl Hasiba Amin, who has featured in the party’s advertisement, was once imprisoned on charges of corruption.
He has tweeted threatening legal action against persons responsible for making attempts to jeopardise Amin’s political career. “Those spreading lies about Hasiba Amin, a 23-year-old NSUI girl, represent rotten and moribund political culture, which has no place in Indian politics,” he tweeted. “I caution those spreading lies and intimidating Hasiba Amin, that we are seriously contemplating strong legal action.”
The NSUI President of Goa Unit has herself expressed disgust over the campaign against her. She has twitted that the campaign run against her through social media has not an iota of truth. “@HasibaAmin: Disgusted with the campaign against me. Not a bit of it is true. Think of the girls in ur (your) family before u falsely spoil the image of a girl!” her tweet reads.
Amin hailing from Ponda is in the news after she was featured prominently in Congress’s campaign ‘Kattar Soch Nahi, Yuva Josh.’ This electronic media campaign has been unveiled in the run up to the Lok Sabha polls.
Amin’s picture with Congress leader Shashi Tharoor who is in the controversy after his wife’s death is being flashed on the social networking websites.
NSUI Goa had lately released a press statement condemning and dismissing “false allegations” against its President, claiming it has been done to tarnish her image. It has blamed the Opposition of making personal attacks at her by way of such baseless complaints.
The Crime Branch which has received a complaint against Amin, of her alleged involvement in the Rs 300 crore PWD tender scam, is still studying the matter.
