MP Viriato Fernandes Lauds Launch of Racquet Culture in Chicalim, Voices Concerns Over Road Safety and AI Camera Project

South Goa MP Viriato Fernandes attended the launch of Racquet Culture, a new sports and lifestyle destination at Assoy, Chicalim, on May 31, where he praised the initiative as a significant step towards promoting fitness, wellness, and sustainable living.

Speaking at the event, Fernandes noted that the demands of modern life often leave people with little time to focus on their physical and mental well-being. He described the facility as a welcome addition that encourages healthy lifestyles while also fostering environmental consciousness. Congratulating the promoters, he urged residents and sports enthusiasts to make full use of the centre and its amenities.

Addressing media queries on recent resignations from the Congress party, Fernandes dismissed suggestions of instability within the organisation. He stated that the Congress, with its 137-year legacy, remains a strong political force and is not facing any internal turmoil.

The South Goa MP also raised concerns about road safety, particularly in relation to rent-a-car services frequently used by tourists. He called for stricter regulations and stronger enforcement measures to prevent incidents of drunk driving and enhance safety on Goa’s roads.

Commenting on the government’s proposed AI-based traffic camera project, Fernandes expressed scepticism over its implementation. He questioned the effectiveness of previously installed surveillance systems and alleged that the new project could potentially become another avenue for corruption if not executed transparently and efficiently.

The launch event highlighted the growing interest in sports and wellness infrastructure in Goa, while Fernandes used the occasion to address a range of public issues, including road safety, governance, and political developments.
