VASCO: The Goa State Expert Appraisal Committee (Goa-SEAC) has asked Mormugao Port Authority (MPA) to approach Union Ministry for Environment, Forest and Climate Change (MoEF&CC) to seek necessary permission for cargo handling at its Mooring Dolphins facility.

The SEAC had received an application from MPA for grant of Environment Clearance (EC) and Environment Impact Assessment (EIA) at Mooring Dolphins.

During its recent meeting, the Committee after perusing and scrutinising the documents submitted by MPA, it was observed that the application is to handle 4.75 million tons per annum of cargo, which is less than 5 million tons per annum.

“However, considering the mooring Dolphins capacity- off shore facility berth No. 1, 2, 3 the total capacity shall definitely exceed 5 million TPA,” the committee said.

In view of the above, the Committee collectively decided to recommend the Goa State Environment Impact Assessment Authority to write a letter to MPA to approach MoEF&CC for further assistance.
