PANJIM: Striking employees of 108 emergency services called off their hunger strike, after a late night assurance given by South Goa Member of Parliament Narendra Sawaikar.
The South Goa MP accompanied by MLA Subash Phal Sessai and others met the strikers and assured them that all their demands would be met.
“We have assured them that their demands would be met. We will be meeting at the secretariat along with other MLAs including Nilesh Cabral and finalizing how their phase wise demands, including the one about the Human Resource Corporation would be implemented.
The 108 employees were on an indefinite strike for almost 15 days with many being admitted to the Goa Medical College after suffering from low blood pressure and low sugar levels.
The workers were protesting were demanding regularization, better working conditions and road worthy ambulances in addition to many other demands. They had also alleged that the company had been selected without a proper tendering procedure.
The employees were striking for over a month and a half beginning on February 18. They had started their strike by handing over vehicle keys to the management and then walked from the Goa Medical College to Azad Maidan, Panjim.
