VASCO: A 30-meter long compound wall protecting the operational area of Mormugao Port Trust premises and a huge jungle tree close to the compound wall collapsed on the stationary wagons inside the Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) in Vasco on Tuesday morning.
According to the information, the incident reportedly occurred at around 10 am, when the rain soaked compound wall suddenly collapsed due to landslide and the debris started sliding down onto the railway track located few meters below. The impact of compound wall collapse was such that a huge jungle tree located few meters away from the compound wall got uprooted and fell on two stationary wagons, including one coal loaded wagon and an empty wagons inside the MPT jurisdiction.
As the tree collapsed on the railway wagons, all the railway traffic from MPT towards the Southern Railway route came to a standstill for several hours and the same resumed after all debris of compound wall and tree was removed by the Vasco fire station officials. Similarly as the incident had reported just adjacent to the main road leading to Headland Sada, vehicular traffic had to suffer as during the operations the crane used by the Vasco fire officials to clear the debris blocked the main road for a long time due to which the locals had to suffer.
