VASCO: Around 300 employees of Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) protested against the management demanding hike in their salary and arrears by staging a demonstration in front of General Administrative Building, on Wednesday.
MPT worker Augustin D’Costa stated that workers employed in the 11 ports across India have received hike in their salaries whereas in case of Mormugao Port Trust has not implemented the salary hike of the workers and the MPT chairman has only given hollow assurances to the workers from long.
He mentioned that the wage revision agreement of Major Ports of India was due since January, 1, 2017 to December 31, 2021, and the same was signed on August 30, 2018. One of the conditions in the agreement was that the revised wages to be implemented within two months from signing the agreement.
The Mormugao Port Trust management has not implemented the new pay scales of the employees even though the nine months passed for the signing the agreement, which was due since last 30 months.
