‘MPT has tremendous potential to cater to needs of trade & industry’

PM to launch Gati Shakti on October 13

VASCO: With the launch of the national master plan for multimodal connectivity or PM Gati Shakti on October 13, the Department for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade (DPIIT) would become the nodal ministry for monitoring and implementation of all infrastructure projects.

This will bring together 16 ministries, including seven core infrastructure sectors, on one platform to synergise project planning across stakeholder ministries to avoid duplication, expedite clearances and plug gaps at the right time.

According to Mormugao Port Trust (MPT), the port has tremendous potential to cater to the needs of trade and industry, and to contribute to the economic development of the nation.

“The Prime Minister said that it is necessary to increase both the manufacturing and exports sectors in India. Therefore, every product sold worldwide from India is attached to India, which is why every ‘Made in India’ product is a brand ambassador for the country”, MPT said.

“Towards achieving the vision of the Prime Minister, Ports being a service industry which provide facilities for both EXIM and domestic sector, Mormugao Port Trust will also rise up to the expectations in achieving the goals of the ‘Gati Shakti Master Plan’, as it always has in the past”, MPT added.

“The port has multimodal connectivity, excellent cargo handling facilities, high productivity, streamlined administration and a dedicated workforce”, it claimed.

“Presently Port is having 11 berths for cargo handling and two berths for handling cruise vessels. In addition there are six Mooring Dolphins for handling direct ship to barge cargo operations”, MPT disclosed.

“Two primary railways operate within the states of Goa and Karnataka to serve Mormugao Port through Vasco da Gama Station. The largest railway is South Western Railway (SWR), which connects MPT at Vasco da Gama Station with the hinterland districts of Belgaum, Dharwad, Bellary and Uttarkannada in Karnataka State which are major cargo generation centres. South Western Railway also serves the sites of proposed power generation facilities in Bijapur, Kudgi and Raichur”, the trust said.

MPT further stated that the availability of the international and domestic air terminal at Dabolim, within a distance of 7-8 kms, from the Mormugao Port makes it an ideal location for establishing a multimodal cargo hub and to establish State of Art warehousing facilities etc.
