MPT Hospital amongst facilities extended for COVID patients

PANJIM: In a statement issued, the Public Health Department listed out facilities that have been extended for COVID patients. 

“Considering the surge in COVID-19 cases in the State of Goa and to put infrastructure and manpower in place in order to cope with the increased workload, the government has approved above facilities,’ reads the statement.

Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) Hospital, Headland Sada, Vasco and Primary Health Center (PHC), Cansaulim have been dedicated as a Covid-19 Hospital with immediate effect wherein only suspects or confirmed Covid cases will be admitted and treated. Health officer of Urban Health Center (UHC), Vasco will be the in-charge officer of the MPT hospital.

The department added that the newly-built Super Speciality Block of Goa Medical College and Hospital (GMC), Bambolim will be utilised for the admission of COVID-19 patients with the entire capacity of 500 beds. The services provided by the existing vendors at GMC will be extended to the this block on the same rates as already approved by the government. The arrangements for facility management is interim and for a period of three months. 

ESI Hospital, Margao which has been designated as dedicated ‘COVID-19 Hospital, Margao’ will continue to be so dedicated under the control and supervision of Dr Vishwajit Faldessai, Sr Orthopaedic Surgeon, ESI Hospital, Margao. 

One floor, most likely the second floor of the Sub District Hospital (SDH), Ponda will be exclusively used for treating the COVID-19 patients.

Further, the Shiroda PHC stands notified as COVID Care Centre to admit and quarantine positive asymptomatic cases. Dr Vikas Kuvelkar, SDH Ponda Medical Superintendent (MS) will be the in-charge officer of the said Covid Care Centre.
