VASCO: Urban Development Minister Milind Naik on Wednesday, while defending the coal activities, said that the MPT port has several employees and families dependent on it and it hence cannot be shut down.
Naik while speaking to the media said that the Mormugao Port Trust should function as there are hundreds of pensioners and employees dependent on the company. “Due to the shutting of mining, almost many activities in the port have stopped. Some are doing coal business and many employees and pensioners are dependent on it”, he said.
Naik further mentioned that he does not support coal pollution and it needs to be controlled but also said that he is concerned about the people livelihood.
