VASCO: Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) officials were reportedly gheraoed by some Kharewado locals who also stopped the officials from erecting poles there, on Thursday.
According to the locals, the MPT officials were demarcating land and erecting up poles at Kharewado. Hence, they asked them that if the land at Kharewado doesn’t belong to MPT, then why the MPT was erecting up poles there. The locals claimed that the owners of 194 houses at Kharewado are fighting a case at SC.
However, an MPT official at the site said that that they were surveying and demarcating the land to file an affidavit in the High Court.
“We had written to the Collector and for the same and we were surveying the land and marking houses according to the points in the MoU,” Officer Sudin Prabhudessai said and informed that some 7 or 8 poles were fixed during the survey and half or more of them have been removed.
