Team visits Belgaum to get cooperation

BELGAUM: Assuring Mormugao Port Trust (MPT) of maximum cooperation from Belgaum, Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries (BCCI) President Satish Tendulkar has requested MPT to start a cold storage facility to facilitate shipment of vegetables and other perishable commodities.
The request was made during the visit of an MPT delegation to Belgaum Chamber of Commerce and Industries here on Friday. The delegation visited Belgaum following a specific instruction of MPT Chairman P Mara Pandiyan.
“The main aim of the visit of the MPT delegation comprising B N Budihal and Uday Naik was to seek help of the Belgaum Chamber to promote MPT as multi-commodity port for exporters of Belgaum region,” said BCCI President Satish Tendulkar.
Briefing about enhanced facilities, Budihal said MPT has decided to go in for a multi-specialty port instead of a traditional iron ore port. “MPT has started following facilities like capability to handle feeder vessel of capacity 1,000 TEUS, handy max-size vessels for sugar and fertilizers, chemicals, edible oil and molasses,” added Budihal.
“Priority berthing for container and engineering vessels, container parking yard of 13,600 sq mt, separate railway line for handling container train, separate empty container yard outside port are also available while assistance drug controllers office is opened for drug clearance,” informed Budihal.
Assuring the delegation of maximum cooperation from Belgaum, Tendulkar urged MPT to start a cold storage facility to facilitate shipment of vegetables and other perishable commodities.
