Sanguem:Quepem strongman Chandrakant Babu Kavalekar’s better half — Savitri Kavalekar is aiming to “do a babu” in neighbouring Sanguem- win the seat.
On Sunday, Herald caught up with Savitri, one of the women candidates during her campaign. She said that she had covered almost 80 per cent families in Sanguem during her door-to-door visits.
Savitri was campaigning in Mugoli, Malkarne and in the interior villages of Sanguem at the same time when BJP was holding its public meeting in Sanguem.
Speaking to Herald, she said, “I have worked for the Congress for several years and the party has acknowledged the same.”
Stating that she enjoys the advantage of being Quepem MLA’s wife, she said, “People of Goa and especially in Sanguem have seen the work my husband has done his constituency. People now want to have the similar development in Sanguem.”
“Today, Sanguem lacks good roads, dispensaries and basic amenities,” Mrs Kavalekar said. She also expressed her desire to lay emphasis on construction of the bus stand for Sanguem and to have a dedicated market for agro produce.
In Sanguem constituency, two women candidates are going contest against the sitting MLA and other candidates. The other woman candidate is NCP’s Rakhi Naik, who was also seen campaigning in the areas of Sanguem.
