MARGAO: Confusion prevailed at the newly beautified Gogol junction after a group named Shiv Samrajya put up  a Diwali lantern at the circle. Desh Prabhudessai who is the President of CREDAI and who took cognizance of the same called one of the youth from the member to remove the same and later came to the junction and discussed the matter.
The group members, who erected the Diwali lantern, gathered in 100’s and attempted to prevent the removal of the lantern. It is learnt that one of the group member received a call from Desh Prabhudessai asking him to remove the lantern.
Prabhudessai clarified, “We are CREDAI and we had taken donations from developers and have developed this circle. Once we have handed it over to the MMC it is their lookout to maintain the same. I don’t have any objection of any lantern is put up at the circle. It is only because the MMC told me that after handing over the circle they won’t allow any banner or publicity matter on the circle.”
Durgesh Shirodkar, a member of Shiv Samrajya said, “Since the members have done it with lot of hard work, we have come to a conclusion that this will remain for the next eight days or so and later we have discussed and resolved that we will have a separate place besides to have such cultural activity.”
It may be recalled that during the inauguration ceremony of the beautified circle, MMC Chairperson Babita took note of encroachments there and got them removed by MMC workers.
Now, it will be a tough task for the MMC to remove the lantern given the amount of support for its erection.
