MARGAO: A much-awaited oxygen plant promised by Chief Minister Pramod Sawant from PM CARES Fund at the South Goa District Hospital has been commissioned.
If sources from SGDH to be believed, 600 LMP (litres per minute) PSA plant was installed and commissioned on June 3. It was supposed to be operational on May 15 as promised by the chief minister during a visit to the district hospital in May.
Reportedly, the State government has also filed an affidavit before the High Court of Bombay at Goa, informing about the functioning of the said plant.
The much-needed compressor to get the plant functioning — paid for by the “PMCARES Fund” — was supposed to arrive from Gujarat on May 8, but had not arrived on time. That is to be installed at the South Goa District Hospital.
The experts have predicted that a third wave will hit the State very soon and hence the health sector needs to be fully equipped to tackle the situation. Given the situation the said oxygen plant at the district hospital was the need of the hour though SGDH had never faced a shortage of oxygen like GMC at any point in time.
The SGDH used to get a smooth supply of oxygen from Verna, Cuncolim, and Arlem oxygen plants without any interruption. Oxygen plant promised by the chief minister under the PM CARES Fund will be additional support to the hospital, said the sources.
Apparently, installation of another oxygen plant at the district hospital, under the CSR activities through the Goa Shipyard is underway. It is expected to get installed and commenced in another few days.
