CANACONA: Incessant rains lashed most parts of Canacona taluka on Saturday leading to mudslides, uprooting of trees and disturbing normal life.
According to Sushil Moruskar, incharge of Canacona Fire and Emergency Services, they attended over 18 calls which included roads being blocked at five places by uprooted trees.
He said the rain brought down debris on the main road between Gulem and Loliem and Cotigao, at Baddem. As it was obstructing traffic, the mud had to be cleared.
The house of one Vikas Phrabhu at Tolpona was also badly damaged as a tree crashed down on it, Moruskar added.
Landslides at Panyefond partially blocked traffic and at Sadolxem a parked car was damaged as a tree fell on it. An old house at Mastimoll was also damaged.
Within Canacona Municipal Council jurisdiction, four electric poles and many coconut trees were found uprooted due to gusty winds, leading to a blackout. Local agencies and Electricity Department staff were working round the clock to restore power supply. Due to clogged gutters rain water flooded the streets of Canacona town posing a major problem to motorists and pedestrians.
