MARGAO: Mugalli residents from Sao Jose De Areal protested against the dumping of garbage and the stench emanating from the site.
The locals who had gathered at the site in large numbers on Wednesday have vowed to dump the stinking nuisance in front of the panchayat if the authorities failed to address this issue.
Roy Pereira said the stench is so nauseating that residents cannot stay in their homes while business establishments located in the vicinity were suffering as the stench kept customers at bay.
Another local named Raphael said fish and meat remains too were dumped here which the stray dogs sometimes dragged onto the middle of the road.
Franky Gomes, who had spearheaded the protest pointed out that this is an important road that links Curtorim and criticised the members of the public, especially those who stay in rented premises, for dumping garbage here.
Irate locals also urged the Electricity Department to fix the streetlights as
people used the cover of darkness to dump garbage here. They criticised the authorities including the panchayat for only passing the buck and not taking steps to solve the issue.
