MUI discuses seafarers issues

MARGAO: Senior officials of the Maritime Union of India (MUI) met the committee members of Goa Seamen Association of India (GSAI) at GSAI’s office in Margao, on Friday.

At the meet, MUI and GSAI agreed that the two bodies should work unitedly as a team so that their voices and the common grievances of the seafarer community are raised before the concerned authorities.

The committee members and Capt Pradhan discussed various issues of the seafarers’ at the national and international level, especially seafarers who are held hostage and missing. 

He also raised the issue to conduct awareness of Goan women being employed on the ships. Capt Pradhan mentioned that GSAI was very proactive and that the MUI would like to work along with GSAI to fight and raise issues of the seafarers’ community.

Later, MUI General Secretary Captain Tushar Pradhan felicitated GSAI President Frank Viegas on being re-elected as the president.
