Multiple roads connect Goa & M’rashtra: SP’s vague reply on Kamakshi’s ‘killers’ crossing checkposts

Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Akshat Kaushal says, if required, he will review the system and make changes once the probe is complete

PANJIM: O Heraldo’s reportage on how Kamakshi Uddapnov’s killer and his accomplice managed to hoodwink the cops brazenly by crossing the three checkposts with her body in a car with tinted glasses has forced the Goa Police to adopt a ‘defensive’ approach with Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Akshat Kaushal giving a vague reply stating that there are ‘multiple roads’ that connect Goa and Maharashtra and that he could comment only after the investigation details were out.

Coming out in defence of the men in uniform, SP Kaushal while speaking to media persons said, “There are multiple roads that link Maharashtra and Goa. I am sure investigation is on to identify and ascertain the route taken by the accused. We can comment only after such details come out from the investigation. After the investigation, whatever comes out, we will review the system and make changes if required.”

It is pertinent to note that the main accused Prakash Chunchwad and his accomplice Nirupadi Kadakal managed to hoodwink the men in uniform by brazenly crossing three checkposts at Naibagh, Mopa and Patradevi with Kamakshi’s body in a car with tinted glasses after allegedly killing her in a flat at Porvorim.

Kaushal informed that from January to August this year around 34,000 to 35,000 cases have been booked against the owners of the vehicles with tinted glasses.

He claimed that the Traffic Police have intensified their drive against drunken driving and on a daily basis; the traffic personnel are taking action by conducting special drives against drunk drivers.

“This year so far, we have booked 980 cases of drunken driving which is comparatively higher than last year. A total of 795 cases were booked last year. As tourist season is fast approaching we will continue with this drive. We issue challans and also register cases and in case of repeated offence we write to the Transport Department seeking cancellation of driving licence,” Kaushal added.
