Goa Archbishop re-elected dy

NAGAPATTINAM: Archbishop of Mumbai Oswald Cardinal Gracias was on Saturday elected president of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India (CCBI), while Archbishop of Goa Filipe Neri Ferrao (vice-president) and Bishop of Calicut Varghese Chakkalakkal (secretary) were re-elected for a second consecutive term.
The election of Cardinal Gracias at the annual meeting of the Conference of Catholic Bishops of India held at nearby Vailankanni was announced by outgoing President Cardinal Telesphore Toppo.
The election of office-bearers of CCBI was held on the penultimate day of the five-day conference of the Latin Rite Catholic Bishops.
A total of 126 Catholic Bishops from various parts of the country participated in the election, Church sources said.
Cardinal Fernando Filoni, the emissary of Pope Benedict, from Rome consecrated the ‘Morning Star’ Church, a new Church built at Vailankanni.
