PANJIM: Revenue Minister Atanasio ‘Babush’ Monserrate on Wednesday said that Chief Minister Pramod Sawant has directed District Collectors to ensure that special Mamlatdars are put in place within a week, especially in those talukas where the pendency of mundkarial and tenancy cases are highest.

It may be recalled that the government had decided to expedite the process of appointing special Mamlatdars to exclusively deal with over 4,500 mundkar and tenancy cases.

Monserrate said that Mamlatdars will hold hearings even on Saturdays for timely disposal of the cases. “We have set a one-year target to dispose off the pending cases and we are confident to achieve it,” he said.

The Revenue department has asked District Collectors to ensure that the cases pending for more than three years are disposed of by holding a day-to-day hearing. The Additional Collectors are also directed to submit a weekly report on the status of cases to the Secretary (Revenue).
